Summer is slowly slipping away as the rain creeps in and brings Kentucky Fall weather. Lambs are almost all weaned by their mommas and the rams are starting to strut around the farm. We are excited for another season of growth, look forward to shepherds who return to us to grow their flock and new shepherds who come to Red Barn Wool in search of a fresh start with Shetlands. Red Barn Wool is a Kentucky Proud family farm owned by Brian and Janella Miller and their four children- Cal, Kate, Canyon and Karolyna.  Since 2015, their farm in Nancy, KY has been the home to registered Shetland Sheep. Building their herd from 12 to 160 has been an amazing adventure! The farmhouse sits on a hill overlooking the majority of pasture, where sheep can be seen grazing year-round.  Fall is breeding season for Shetlands, shearing time for market lambs.  In the early spring, fleeces are shorn and lambs arrive.  Fleeces are sold raw to hand spinners and wool artisans around the United States.  Lambs are sold to fiber flocks and other registered breeders, with a select few being used as meat animals for grass-fed gourmet meats.
